Catalpa

Im really getting into the upcoming BBBQ trip. Getting everything ready, checking Cindy out, etc. I'll just put some more pics of Catalpa on (I took alot).

After I leave tomorrow morning I wont be posting on the blog again until Sunday evening.

This is a house in the center of Catalpa.

If you'll notice this is a very patriotic town. They always have the flag flying.

An old well at the Catalpa Community Church.

Two old houses from the Catalpa area.

0900 Friday morning we roll out to BBBQ 2007

Its getting closer. Getting my stuff ready and checking Cindy over to see if she needs air in her tires or her chain lubed.
If anyone wants to ride with us, we meet at the Flying J Truck stop tomorrow morning Friday Oct. 5th. We head out at appx. 0900.
We could be going interstate 40 or we could be going North on 7 then taking 16 over to Fayetteville. I dont know, we'll decide when we meet.

Deer Bow season has begun

Maybe some of the potential targets for my motorcycle will be eliminated.
This guy was downtown showing his off.
You may wonder...what has this to do with motorcyles? I've had too many deer run across the road in front of me this year. I'm ready for them to be thinned out. Thats what this has to do with motorcycling :).

Into the dirt North of Ozark and Catalpa

There were alot of bikes on the highway today, probably enroute to BBBQ 2007

My brother Robert and I went for a drive into the mountains North of Clarksville today. I enjoy going places with my brother Robert but I must purchase that onroad/offroad motorcycle so I can do this on two wheels also. We went to Ozark then North on 219, continued on dirt to Hwy 103, then North to Oark, then East to Catalpa. We then followed the dirt road on over to Hwy 21 and then South to Clarksville.

Catalpa, Arkansas Swinging Bridge over the Mulberry River. This is near Catalpa, its on the main paved road from Oark. Watch for the small rock on the left side of the road that has "Swinging Bridge" written on it. You can cross over the bridge but the boards are not in perfect condition.
Check out my links and you'll for my youtube address, theres a video there of me crossing the bridge very carefully.

East of Catalpa, Ar.

Rock Steps to old mountain home. This is on the dirt road that goes from Catalpa to Hwy 21.

Bikes, Blues and BBQ starts tomorrow

Thats right, just one more day till the festivities begin!!! I'll be riding up to Fayetteville probably around 0900 on Friday and staying till Sunday. Myself, Zack, Mike and Mike will probably be deciding on a route Friday morning. It all depends on weather and other plans for the day. If we have no hurried plans for the day and the weather is right, I'll probably suggest going up Hwy 7 to Pelsor and taking Hwy 16 West all the way to Fayetteville. The travel on 16 will be slower since this is the time of the year for deer to move(my brother hit one a couple of days ago with his car). I've came close to hitting one several times this season. If we feel the need to get there quicker, it will be Interstate 40 and 540 probably. We went up the Pigtrail last year. It doesnt matter to me. If I'm freezing or wet though, it will definitely be the Interstate for me.
I thought about putting in a couple of pics of Hwy 16 but I can't find any. I have no idea why unless I'm looking in the wrong places, or they were on the hard drive that crashed a few years ago (word to the wise, always back up pictures to dvd or cd.
Heres a pic of my first bike which was purchased for me in Giesen, Germany. Thats Dick riding it, and my Mom and a friend :).

Not much time today, so thought I would just post some more pics of the Tavern.

Pottsville, Arkansas

Most of the town of Pottsville, East of 247 is on the National Register of Historic Places. I doubt the very well placed (sarcasm intended)City Hall is but most the other buildings are. Heres a few pictures.

The very well placed city hall, the General Store and Potts Tavern in the distance.

This is the old General Store, still open today.

This is the Citizens Bank and a couple of other stores. The bank was open in 1985.

A close up of the Pottsville Bank.

An old truck behind the stores.

Can anyone guess what this is? Its in the park behind the bank, near the creek.
Those stripes in the water are just the reflection of the railings.

Im back home in Pottsville where I lived 25 out of the last 27 years. Theres nothing thats stands for Pottsville more than Potts Tavern. Its in the center of the old town and it would be hard to miss. Its a big house. The historic person that had it built, according to the National Register of Historic Places is Kirkbridge Potts. If I'm not mistaken the name is actually "Kirkbride", no g in the name, an obvious typo.

If you've never been thru the tavern, its well worth the trip and the $5. for adults and $3. for children. I forgot to write down the hours, I'll update later. I think its open from Tuesday-Friday from around 10 am to 3 pm. Dont quote me on those times though.

The first cabin in the line is the one Piney Page was raised in. It was moved here from Page Hollow at least 20 years ago. If I'm not mistaken, all the cabins onsite were relocated here. Piney Page was a well known Radio Celebrity when I was growing up. He told stories of living in the Ozarks.

I would take some pictures of the Galla Creek Bridge but guess what? In following with the rest of Pope County and Arkansas, someone has once again shown an uncanny ability to unravel history. The bridge was dismantled and replaced in 1998. It now lies in a farmers pasture. Just because something is on the Register, doesnt mean the Government cant destroy it, it just means they must go thru certain channels to do so.
