News Flash!!!!! Scenic Highway 7 Byway cut in half at Pelsor

http://www.couriernews.com/story.php?ID=19342
If your going to the Bikes, Blues and BBQ September 24-27....Don't come down Highway 7.
The picture above and the video were taken when one lane was still open.

According to the Courier News, the washout which had narrowed Hwy 7 to one lane South of Pelsor for several months is now impassable. I'm sure it's due to the large amount of rain we recieved recently.
I had a post about this washout

So for now the most direct paved road to get to Pelsor is probably Hwy 123 North out of Lamar. If your on an enduro or in cage there are other ways of getting there but for us cruisers and sport bikes, the best bet is Hwy 123 or if your not in a hurry Hwy 16 and 27.
I'll try to get there and take some pics of the road closing on my next day off.

Arkansas's Dragontail video/ Turn down the sound!!

I know this is not of the best quality but it's the best I could do with what I had to do it with. Even my editing is not perfect but I reserve myself the right to make a few mistakes. I've dicided I need a thicker piece of tape to put over the mic on my camera.
It's not the entire road from Lurton to Mt. Judea, only about half, the top half is mostly long sweeping curves, which I actually enjoy more than the sharp ones since I ride a cruiser.
Anyway, here it is.

The Ride, Pt 2

I almost didn't leave Russellville. I had reasons to stay in town but I resisted and went on my day trip. Highway 7 had alot of motorcycles on it. The weather was cooperating, it was overcast just enough to make it comfortable and the temperature was perfect. I have decided not to post my Dragontail video yet, its just not the way I want it yet. I need to do some more clipping and mixing. The problem is I have several large videos and several small ones and they all have parts I like. So I'll work on it and post it soon.

The trip up Hwy 7 was wonderful as usual as was the ride down Hwy 123. The mountain valleys were filled with fog.

Mt. Judea was crowded being a Saturday as I made my left into town.

The local gas station had at least four cars in the parking lot as did the diner

I rode out of Mt. Judea and turned left onto Hwy 374 at Victor. The scenary along this road which leads to Hwy 7 is some of the best in Arkansas. Its not a long road but it worth the ride. Here are some pics.

A flower pot chimney.
Just a barn. See the mountain in the background? I could'nt get a good pic of it but it had a really awesome looking cliff face. You can see the cliff here in profile.
No drought this year.
Just rocks in a field on a little hill top among mountains.
There was a huge, and I mean HUGE square boulder on the side of a mountain near this spot. It looked really strange, just sitting there, precariously, surrounded by trees looking as if it might start sliding at anytime. I tried to get a pic of it but just couldn't get close enough. I need to save for a new camera.
This farm is magnificent, the kind of place I'd like to live. Engulfed by mountains with a creek flowing through. This land is alot steeper than it looks.

This trip will be continued later continuing on Hwy 7 North.

The Ride to Missouri / A Synopsis

On August 30th, I made the ride to Mo. I had to cut it short and did'nt ride along the Southern edge of Mo. but I made it a point to at least go a few feet into Mo. :>). This may not be too interesting but heres a list of the roads I went on and in order.
I left at 0830 from Shiloh Park Ballfield.
Took Hwy 7 to Hwy 123 and the beginning of the Dragontail.
After that great ride, I made a left on Hwy 374 through Victor and back to Hwy 7.
I then went Hwy 7 to Hwy 206.
After this it was 206 and 397 to 392 and eventually Hwy 62 West.
At Berryville I went North on Hwy 21 to the border town of Blue Eye, Mo.
I then doubled back to Hwy 311 which I passed along the way and followed it to 62 West again and back Berryville, this time taking Hwy 21 South.
After arriving at Hwy 412 I made a right then an almost immediate left to get back onto Hwy 21 South.
At Boxley I made a left on Hwy 43 North.
Just before getting to Ponca I made a right on hwy 74 crossing the Buffalo River and eventually arriving at Hwy 7 South which I followed back to Russellville.

Hows that for confusing. I had a little room left on my palm for more numbers. The trip I made to Otto, Ark. this summer taking the Northern route thereby passing up I-40 was alot more comfusing, I had numbers stretched all the way across my palm. Thats all I got time for now. I'll do some posting about the trip a little later tonight, I hope and I do have some pics and videos.

Absolutely nothing to do with biking

But I had to brag about the videos of my daughter singing that I've been posting on my youtube site "bikingarkansas". I hope you enjoy watching them, I know she likes nothing more than to be able to sing. There is a link to the site on the right column :). Below is a video of Shanna singing a Jewell song. She does'nt play guitar much, so if she makes a mistake...oh well.
